Upper School Program
The Upper School at Eagle Hill is comprised of students ranging in age from 11 to 16. Since the Eagle Hill program is ungraded, decisions about initial placement in the upper vs. lower school division are made based upon individual students’ profiles of learning strengths and needs as well as age, so some 11 year olds may be placed in lower school and some in upper school. While the upper school continues to provide intensive, individualized remediation for students with learning disabilities, the volume of work increases, as does the emphasis on independent application of learning strategies. Because most students transitioning from Eagle Hill to more traditional independent or public school placements do so from the upper school, teachers in this division also offer more intensive instruction in using textbooks, note-taking, researching, preparing for tests and quizzes, etc. Students are encouraged to become more independent, active learners and problem-solvers in preparation for their post-Eagle Hill placement.
