February in Review
Even though February is a short month there were many activities for the dorm students to be excited about and look forward to during February –Valentine’s Day, the upcoming dorm ski trip, and the Talent Show.
Valentine’s Day carnations abounded as students swapped flowers or special ones were left at somebody’s door. The secrecy was intense, the chocolates flowed like lava, and the excitement was overwhelming.
Just getting ready for the dorm ski trip was another adventure: who was going? What van to ride in? Who can ski versus snowboard? Which is better? What trails can you do? There’s always a lot of controversy this time of year around the benefits of skiing, snowboarding, basketball, and hockey, but all that really matters is how you play once you are out there on the mountain, rink, or court.
The Talent Show is always an anxious time for students, even those that are used to performing in front of large crowds. I am always amazed at the courage the students show in standing by themselves or with a group and singing, dancing, telling jokes, or playing a musical instrument. Many dorm students are participating in the show this year and have practiced very hard on their routines. Good luck to all participants!
With the kindness and generosity of donations from parents during the Book Fair, the dorm was able to purchase some new items for the dorm students:
A new karaoke machine has been used every night by a group of students singing their hearts out to “Sweet Caroline” (Neil Diamond) … time for a new song?
The game “Rock Band” for the Xbox 360, which gives up to four students at a time the opportunity to play a guitar, sing, and play drums to a song they choose. The challenge is to hit the notes and chords exactly right in order to earn points.
A new DVD/VCR player for the girls’ wing
Four new board games
Four magazine subscriptions,
and more items on the way. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity!
Students are counting down the days until March break. Some already know where they are going and others are waiting for the surprise. Wherever you are going, please have a safe vacation.
Sincerely,
Joy Delisle
