Speech and Language

The mission of the Speech and Language Department at Eagle Hill School is to expand language-based communication skills for youngsters who demonstrate diagnosed vulnerabilities in this area. As the links between language and learning, and language and literacy are unambiguous, so too is the mandate to provide strategic support in this language immersion environment.

As an evidence-based practice facility, the Speech and Language Department embraces strategies that are supported by valid research. Service delivery may include small- or large-group therapy, pull-out or push-in therapy, consulting, or any combination of these interventions.

Every new student is screened by the Speech and Language department. The results of the screenings are shared with the Educational Advisor and teaching staff.

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) designs a program in concert with the student’s Educational Advisor to achieve consensus on overarching communication needs. Academic and social goals are reviewed, along with the impact of intelligibility concerns. Effective therapy techniques emphasize use of dynamic assessment and require significant interaction with classroom teachers, dorm personnel and coaches.

Eagle Hill SLPs are fully accredited by the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the State of Connecticut.
