Motor Training

Motor Training

The purpose of Motor Training is to identify and select students with fine and/or gross motor deficits and design an individualized program specific to their needs. This is usually done in a small group classes. The areas of emphasis vary based on the individual, ranging from: acquiring basic life skills (i.e. shoe tying, buttoning, zippering, door opening...), to basic social skills (i.e. greetings, basic conversational skills, basic play skills...), to participation in small group games, and participation in leisure play outside class, including team play.

Each class is designed and implemented based on the needs of the individual student. The Motor Training program aids students in an appropriate transition toward the next level of their development whether it is within the confines of the Motor Training class, out in the mainstream Eagle Hill population, or at their next school.

The norm for time allotted for a Motor Training student is twice a week forty minutes per session including travel time from class to the gym. Occasionally, a student will require a third twenty-minute, more informal, session.

The Motor Training program is based on individualization and the flexibility and “child driven” aspect of Eagle Hill. The facilities include the gymnasium, fitness center, locker-room and a small office area. The Motor Training specialist (Mr. Hanrahan) is in his twenty-fourth year at Eagle Hill.
