A Message from the Athletic Director
While everyone, including Eagle Hill, likes their teams to be on the winning side, we consider the best measure of success in the athletic program to be the great number of students who participate each year. In 2008-09, for instance, more than 190 students participated on 26 teams (more than 75 percent!). We also continue to be committed to our “no-cut policy” in our athletic program, with the exception of the tennis team, which has court and transportation restrictions. In 2008-09, we had a couple of “firsts” that we hope will continue. While there was no separate girls’ ice hockey team, we did have enough girls on the combined varsity and JV teams to be able to schedule four games against girls-only teams. In the spring, thanks to the initiative of a couple of female students, Eagle Hill had its first ever girls’ lacrosse team. Included in our 26 teams this past year were girls’ teams for varsity and JV field hockey, plus varsity and JV basketball, cheerleading, and girls’ lacrosse. Our female students also participated to varying degrees on co-ed teams such as varsity, JV, and JJV soccer and cross country, plus varsity and JV hockey and basketball “D”, JV baseball, and JJV softball. We look forward to the 2009-10 season. Over the summer, we have been improving our main field, and completely refurbishing our outdoor tennis/basketball court, which opened in early July. The fall athletic season begins the first day of school (field hockey may have a couple of practices the week prior to start-up). All students who have signed up to play soccer, field hockey, or cross country should be prepared to play! We look forward to another great year on the playing fields! Dave Kates |
