PARENTS ASSOCIATION MEETING

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2007

Welcome: Lisa Miller chaired the meeting. The Executive Board was introduced while attendance and transportation sheets were circulated. Brook Urban, Director of Development, introduced herself and the members of her staff.

Opening Remarks: Mark Griffin reported a successful start to the year. There are staffing changes that were addressed in his summer welcome letter.

Margie Alley invited all parents to the Parent Support Group meetings. They will be held on Fridays at 11 am, starting 9/28, in the Radar room. Topics will vary.

Tom Cone was introduced. He and Dave Sylvestro run the Dad’s Support Group. They will meet the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday of every month and topics will vary.

Nuts and Bolts: EHS Parents Assoc. Board focuses mostly on community building, less on fund raising. This year there will be a lunch meeting every 6 weeks or so. Audrey MacDonald addressed the need for all parents to pay the PA membership dues. Communications from the school will happen via email, Friday folders, news letters and eblasts.

PA Mission and Goals for 2007-2008: Build Community! Everyone is encouraged to participate and get involved. It’s the best thing for both you and your child.

PA Committee Descriptions: Volunteers are needed !

Book Fair – Alison Arsenault announced this year’s “Reading is Sweet” book fair theme. The fair will be held Dec 12,13,14.

Done in a Day – Jane Flood explained the brief time-commitment nature of these short term projects requested by the teachers.

EHS Logowear – Hope Jayes introduced the increased selection of Spirit Wear.

Family Fun Day – To be held Oct 13th, EHS families can enjoy rides, games, booths and prizes.

Mailings – Volunteers are needed to help staff with regular mailings.

New Parent Welcome – Evan Pagano explained how this committee matches existing parents to new parents, in order to provide them with mentors.

PreTeen Parties ( 9-11 yr olds ) – Marie Blue will be running the fall and spring pre teen parties. The fall event has a Halloween theme and help is needed with decorations,etc.

Sunday Supper – Dora Polo runs this fun family event to be held in late January. It involves dinner, bingo and prizes.

Spring Benefit – Kim Augustine and Barbara Walsh will chair this fund raising event to be held Saturday, April 12th at the Greenwich Hyatt.

Staff Appreciation – One Friday a month this group, headed by Lisa Eatroff, organizes breakfast for the teachers and staff. They also coordinate staff appreciation week held at the end of the school year.

Teen Parties – Sharon Kinney’s committee needs help with two parties this year, decorating, providing food and drinks and chaperoning.

Mom’s Night Out – Sharon Kinney described the two events ( fall and spring ) that provide a casual, informal way for Mom’s to get to know each other.

Upcoming Events – The calendar for September has been revised. Please note 2 important changes : Tuesday, 9/18 is the new date for the PA seminar. The PSG meeting for 9/14 was cancelled.
