Welcome from the Head of School

Welcome from Dr. Marjorie E. Castro

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Eagle Hill School. This will be my first year as Head of School. My commitment to the education of children is a deep one and though this is a new beginning for me, I come with experience as a teacher, reading specialist, principal, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, and Superintendent of Schools. I am tremendously excited about the opportunity to work with the dedicated administrators and faculty of Eagle Hill School, and to get to know and support our special students and their families.

For over three decades, Eagle Hill has had an incredible record of helping children with learning disabilities to become successful learners. We are a child centered school which builds upon each child’s strengths and addresses his/her specific educational needs by developing an individualized academic program which is delivered by a staff of highly trained, dedicated, and experienced special educators.

At Eagle Hill, our children, faculty, and parents form a strong partnership in and out of the classroom with the goal of supporting students as they develop the skills needed to be successful learners and return to more traditional educational settings. We believe that this can be accomplished by building upon children’s abilities, not their disabilities, thereby making a transition from academic struggle to academic strength using proven, research-based strategies, materials, and programs. Children become active learners who are aware of their own learning styles and able to advocate for themselves.

Both inside and outside the classroom, we actively work to realize Eagle Hill’s mission for developing the whole child:

Eagle Hill helps children gain the self-esteem necessary to initiate, nurture,

and maintain friendships. Inherent in the Eagle Hill philosophy is the

development of children with strong moral and ethical character.”

At Eagle Hill, we are very aware of the complex world in which our students will live, learn, and contribute. We want them to feel confident in their academic abilities and their worth as human beings who will contribute to the world in which they live. It is our job to prepare them for the future challenges they will meet in order to successfully navigate the school world and the larger world of which they will be a part.

Excellent schools are ones in which everyone is a learner. I look forward to learning with every member of the Eagle Hill learning community.

Sincerely,

Marjorie E. Castro, Ed.D.
