Snow Policy

POLICY ON SNOW DAY CLOSING, DELAYED OPENINGS AND EARLY DISMISSAL DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

SNOW DAY SCHOOL CLOSINGS

We will use our new snow day phone announcement system to inform the school community about school closing. We make the call as soon as we hear from the Greenwich Superintendent’s office. If you do not actually answer the call the announcement system will leave you a message. Please be sure to let us know if your phone number changes so we can keep our list as up to date as possible. In addition there will be a general announcement on the radio stations listed in this document which says, “Greenwich private, parochial and public schools, with the exception of the Greenwich Japanese School and Greenwich Country Day, are closed.” There will be NO announcement about Eagle Hill individually. All independent schools in Greenwich with the exception of the Greenwich Japanese School that has its own network have embraced this policy. WFAS (1230AM) in Hartsdale, NY does not broadcast Greenwich public school information so it WILL list Eagle Hill Individually - “Eagle Hill School in Greenwich is closed today.”

We will also list closings on our website www.eaglehillschool.org. The listing will be posted as soon as we receive word of closings or delays from the Greenwich School District.

You may also call the main number here at the school after 6:30am and there will be a recorded message concerning the status of school closings or delays. We ask that you not call before 6:30 am as the phone rings in the dormitory building until secretaries arrive at 7:30 am.

We do adhere to closing judgments made by The Greenwich Superintendent of School who makes the decision in concert with the Greenwich Police Department.

DELAYED OPENING

If there is a one or two hour delay of school opening, each individual school will make its own announcement. The announcement will take the form: “Eagle Hill School has a one-two hour delayed opening.” We generally do not adhere to delays as we actually have faculty here at the normal opening time because of our residential student population. If you are transporting your youngster by private vehicle, you may bring him/her to school at normal drop off times if it is safe to travel.

EARLY DISMISSAL

At times, our local Greenwich schools and/or other individual school districts where you may reside, decide to dismiss children early because of deteriorating weather conditions. When this occurs, it is our firm policy not to release children who ride on district-provided transportation until we are sure that there is someone home to meet them. While we apologize for this inconvenience, we will continue to abide by this policy to assure safe arrival of students home to a house with a parent or other responsible adult there.

We also ask that if you are picking up a child during an early dismissal, you check in with the child’s Advisor or one of the secretaries prior to taking the child off campus so we may be sure that the child has been picked up by a responsible adult.

Please call us here at the school with any questions. It may sound confusing now but we are confident that this policy will allow all of us to get better information more quickly during inclement weather conditions.
